Question:
For equipment intended for use with field installable, plug-in laser device modules (LDMs) not provided with the equipment, how should the laser safety aspects of the equipment be addressed in an IECEE CB Test Report?
Decision:
The equipment shall be investigated to IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60825-1 and –2 with representative LDMs during the Type Test investigation. The LDMs shall be described in the List of Critical Components, but may or may not be shipped with the equipment from the original equipment manufacturer.
The CB Test Report for the equipment shall state the following in the General Product Information:
a) This end product is for use with field installable LDMs not provided with the product when shipped from the original equipment manufacturer. This end product was evaluated with representative LDMs during the Type Test investigation.
b) The end product with LDMs installed is required to comply with IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60825-1 and –2, including any declared national differences.
c) The decision on certification of the end product without the LDMs rests with the recognizing NCB.

Subject：Identification of Critical Components – Minimum description criteria for disk drives
Question:
Within an IECEE CB Report for an end product that contains a component disk drive(s) (e.g., CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, Hard, Floppy, Tape), if the disk drive(s) has its own certification to IEC 60950 (-1), is it acceptable to identify such a critical component by technical data, standard, and mark(s) of conformity, as in the example below, without specifying manufacturer’s name and type number for each component?
Decision:
For component disk drives covered by a CB Test Report and Certificate, there are two options for component descriptions, depending on the type of disk drive:
1. Non-laser based drives – The parts list should state "Mfr: Company A or equivalent," and "Model: Model B or equivalent," so there is traceability for the construction of the sample tested. The description should also include the technical data (input voltage rating, load current rating, flammability rating of the bezel), standard, and mark of certifying body/organization.
2. Laser based drive - The parts list should state: "Mfr: Company A or equivalent", and "Model: Model B or equivalent," so that there is traceability (to IEC60950-1 and applicable laser requirement(s)) for the construction of the sample tested. The description should also include technical data (input voltage rating, load current rating, flammability rating of the bezel, and, when applicable, laser classification), and standard, and indicate that the component is covered by a CB Test Report and Certificate.

Subject: Compliance criteria for safety graphical symbols according to IEC 60417-1, ISO 3864, and ISO 7000.
Question:
Is compliance with the safety colours and contrast colours stipulated in ISO 3864 required when the safety graphical symbols are moulded (e.g. on the back of a computer monitor) on a plastic enclosure?
Decision:
Compliance with the safety colours and contrast colours stipulated in ISO3864 is optional when the safety graphical symbols are moulded on the outside of the enclosure of ICT products.
